What it does

The whole number this text spells, or nothing.

A leading sign is admitted, because a temperature, a balance, and an offset

are all legitimately below nothing. Surrounding space is ignored; anything

else in the text means the text does not spell a number, and answering

nothing is the honest reading — a reader that stopped at the first

character it did not recognise would read "12a" as twelve.
