This is a callable function.

What it does

One or more digits as an arbitrary-precision whole number.

A leading minus is admitted, so a negative number reads as one value rather

than as an operator a caller has to reassemble. The magnitude is

accumulated in BigInt because the text may name a number larger than any

fixed width, and deciding that too early would turn a range question into a

parse failure at the wrong place.

Read the signature

• Names inside [ ] are type arguments, such as the item type held by a collection.
• Result makes success and recoverable failure part of the function's type.
