What it does

The value, or a fallback when the operation failed.

The failure is discarded, which is why this is the only form that takes one:

a caller who needs to know why should match, or propagate with `?`.

Read the signature

• The text after the name is the type checked by Pudu.
• Read arrows from left to right: inputs come first, and the final type is returned.
