Std.Db.Session.DbError

1 declaration

type

DbError

This declaration introduces a public type.

What it does

Opening a connection and keeping it: the handshake, what the server asks

for, and the messages that cross afterwards.

Separated from [[Std Db]] because the two answer different questions. This

one knows how to become a connection and how to read one message; that one

knows what a query is, what a transaction promises, and how a pool hands a

connection round. Authentication in particular is where a mistake is

quietest, and it is easier to read when it is not surrounded by row access.

Why a database operation did not do what it was asked.

A failure the server reported is kept apart from every other kind, and

carries the code the server gave it. That code is what a caller acts on: a

unique-key violation is retried differently from a syntax error, and a

caller matching on the text of a message would break when the server was

translated or upgraded.
